LOOKING FORWARD TO THE WEEKEND?
1/16/20262 min read

Do you look forward to going home at the end of your week?
We talk a lot about business and work, being successful and productive, even fulfilled and engaged.
But something I’ve realised more and more over the past year is how meaningless that all is without special people to share our lives with.
So, when you’re heading home on a Friday, are you feeling excited and happy to see your partner?
Do you cherish spending time with your children over the weekend?
Or does it all just feel like clocking off from one job and heading to another?
If you don’t have a partner or kids, do you look forward to your life outside work?
Is it filled with people you like to spend time with, or things you like to do that make you feel full and vibrant?
Or do you feel like you’re just wasting time watching Netflix and sports, or doing chores and going shopping, until you have to go back to work again on Monday?
Many of us have been sleep walking for decades into a life that leaves us feeling less than happy and fulfilled, and we’ve reached a point where we just accept it as what ‘normal’ life is.
We look around and see that pretty much everyone else has the same type of existence, so we accept it as inevitable.
That’s definitely where I was a decade ago, until I decided I couldn’t go on like that.
The thought of spending another 50 years in a life I never wanted that made me miserable was enough to force me to rip it all apart and start again.
If I could go back and advise that old version of me, though, I’d tell him he didn’t need to be so dramatic in demolishing his entire life – he could have just rebuilt it in slower, more incremental steps that would have avoided a lot of pain and suffering.
But even with the issues I’ve faced and the mistakes I’ve made along the way, I’m still glad I made the difficult choice to change direction, because otherwise I’d still be sitting here nearly a decade later wishing I’d started back then.
If any of that resonates with you, maybe this is your moment to start making changes so that you’re not looking back in 10 years wishing you’d started already.
